I have a few rods with the old Fuji FPS seats - they were light, had a large adjustment range and held skinny and fat feet securely because off the shape of the part that housed the foot.
Iconic design that deserves to endure.
Bought some bits from steve parton and he would not sell me any other type of reel seat. Reason being he had never ever had an issue with a single one.
I wonder if they 'dipped' them in all kinds of different colours they could have a resurgence.

Very functional bits of kit👍

There's some modern reel feet, that don't even fit modern reel seats too! It's common for them to be slack or even a little too deep to nip up securely. Can be a nightmare at times.
Like my Hardy Demons! I love those rods but they are very fussy about what reel I can fit in them, I've ended up filing a few reel feet to suit.

I had a couple and found even some modern Hardy and Greys reels weee a poor fit - do much for the standard !
I wouldn't butcher a nice reel, I'd just change the reel seat for something lighter and nicer.

I once had one with a Zebrano wooden insert and lined gold anodised reel cups, but still the delrin threads and locking band, it looked great but still performed the same as the standard Fuji ones. It had a removable matching Zebrano push in button or short cork fighting butt.

I can't see how it can take any longer to make or use any different materials than a normal good quality CNC reel. How could it? It simply can't be anything to do with cost of manufacture and materials. This is simple engineering.

I'd probably find them very nice things but I think my Snowbee is also a nice thing.

I've just taken apart everything in a £19 Maxcatch ECO reel just to see and I think that's pretty well made too. It's die cast but it's got a decent enough drag and all the parts fit. I wouldn't take it bone fish fishing but it'll easily handle a river brown trout.

I reckon if Maxcatch copied the Islander they could make them of the same quality for <$50.
Why are you interested in taking the craft out of fishing reels and everything else, and just getting stuff that is as cheap as humanly possible made in China; honestly, I don't get it?

Yes, it's been THREE AND A HALF YEARS - surely time to go through this all again, isn't it?

If you don't want to know what's behind the red curtain, it's best not to look. But it seems that you're desperate for a peek aren't you?

I am at least consistent 😀
And tackle being made locally, by locals even if it is a bit more pricey - because we all want to receive a wage relative to our national norms, has got to be better all around. Why wouldn’t it be?
