Hey everybody,

Just want to start by saying a thank-you for all the helpful advice everyone offered about how to start my fly fishing adventures! Ive managed to get some gear and tuition sorted to get me going with my casting, so hopefully I’m on the right track.

The other-day I decided to have a trip into Winchester and couldn’t help myself but to go wonder down the path near the private beat of the Itchen, it got me very excited to maybe one day fish such rivers with a fly rod.

I wondered if anyone on the forum knew of any good rivers for Grayling fishing over the winter that could help me get a head start ready for next trout season! Any info on day tickets, season tickets, angling associations and even secret spots ( My PM’s are open!) would be much appreciated!

Im happy to travel a fair distance by car if it means I can get some river fly fishing experience ready for next year!

Thanks a bunch,

Tight lines

You probably know this but there is a free section of the Itchen in Winchester - at least there used to be. I lived there for many years and it was surprisingly little fished. From memory it was from above Alfred’s statue through the park to above the rugby club. Worth checking out if it’s still available.
