The above reel and spare spool in near mint condition . The reel and spool are grey. There are 4 exposed rivet heads on the back of the reel. The spindle is located by a rivet rather than a screw head. The reel is marked "
Made in England". There are 2 holes drilled in the reel foot. The finish has rubbed off for about 2 inches on the outside edge of the cage. The spare spool has a few tiny marks on the outside edge. I would not have thought the wear/marks significant to someone intending to fish the reel but they might be to a collector. The reel comes in a suede pouch and the spare spool in a Neoprene pouch. I will send photographs by email to anyone interested. ÂŁ175 plus ÂŁ5 postage to a UK mainland ( not Highlands ) address. Payment by Paypal as a gift. No offers or swaps please.

Agreed Yardbent...

... at best, asking for a "gift" is disingenuous ... thus integrity is called into question.

.... in the case ... commentary is based on experience.

For your information no one needs any protection from this seller.
I'm sure we had dealings in the past, so while I know that, and you say that, a prospective buyer that doesn't know you from Adam doesn't.
It would be better to suggest that the buyer pays as goods and covers the fees

This is a high cost item with no pics from a member with relatively few posts It is reasonable to ask for the protection PayPal can provide. The seller should have appreciated this and provided it in the first place. Just saving peanuts on a sale isn't worth it.... as this thread demonstrates.

It is quite normal on the classified section to request paypal gift. I'm unsure why it has even been raised into question on this listing. Fees aside, annoyingly, Paypal almost always favours the buyer regardless of what occurs during a transaction so I personally wouldn't consider sending a high value item on here and risk being scammed by a buyer reporting an item as fake or not as described etc.

I purchased two rods from Sunray and can confirm that he is a good honest guy.

99% on here are genuine and I've never had my fingers burnt but I always pay 'goods' and then add the cost of the difference, just put in to your pay-pal your paying gift then look at the cost, example, say a pound for a ÂŁ50 transaction then pay goods and pay ÂŁ51 the buyer will get his ÂŁ50 and should be happy, you get signed/recorded delivery and everyone is :):):)

I'm sure he's a perfectly respectable chap but admin have warned about paying as a gift after a few people have not received the goods they paid money for, you are not covered by PayPal if you pay this way, easier to put the 2 or 3% on the asking price in the first place.

The fact of the matter is this forum states quite clearly it won't get involved in any dispute between members if the transaction is "Gift".

The reason for this is people have been turned over on here in the past so quite wisely they've made a judgement based on that.

Whatever you do outside the forum is your own risk and business but on here.........do it the way they suggest or suffer the consequences in silence if it goes awry.

I don't disagree, but if a buyer is uncomfortable with paypal gift, they should decide not to buy the item, which is fine as somebody else will most likely buy it. The seller should be able to choose how to sell their item. If it doesn't sell then it's their problem. It is the buyers responsibility to assess their exposure to risk when buying online and shop accordingly.

The reason I find this frustrating is the forum has given me the opportunity to aquire a few quality items at good prices with very simple transactions, suiting sellers and myself. All of this talk seems counterproductive and unnecessary as it may discourage people from listing/buying.

It will be interesting to see if the reel sells after all of this conversation.

I dont think sunray has done anything wrong and its pretty shocking his post has been taken over like this.

Good luck with the sale sunray but i doubt anyone will buy it now because you are more or less being made out to be some sort of criminal mastermind.

The sooner admin stop allowing this to happen on classified threads the better.

Apologies for posting on your thread sunray.

It's a shame that this thread has been used as a stage to discuss the pro and cons of the Paypal system, but it clearly has raised some interest- not the reel, I mean the pros and cons.

For my money, it's a little bit of naivety on the OP's part in the way it's gone. " buyer pays fees", and it would have trundled along like all the others.

Just out of interest, what's an Orvis CFO?

Old reels from the 70's

also modern versions Fly Reels / CFO Disc Drag Fly Fishing Extra Spool -- Orvis UK

But from the sellers description it is the old version he has (pic would be handy)

Most of the guys selling on here have a very good track record and a reputation to uphold (myself included) and anyone buying should have no fear of being ripped off.

I send everything special delivery or insured parcel force if it's to big for special, i pm all tracking numbers as soon as its posted, I won't sell to new members or anyone that has a bad reputation on here or other fishing forums (it's easy to do some checks).

This is a great forum full of honest and trustworthy members, use common sense and your gut instinct and the old saying 'if it seems to good to be true it probably is' and you won't get ripped off.

Again it's really wrong that sunray has had his thread hijacked and admin really need to stop members commenting unless it is about buying the item, so many threads are ruined by the same members time after time......if you have a problem with a for sale thread pm the seller or contact admin.

Again I apologise to sunray for posting on his thread and I hope he gets his reel sold, try ebay as there are a lot of orvis reel collectors out there and you will get a better price and less hassle.

Any publicity is good publicity. You can be sure anyone wanting this particular CFO won't have been distracted. After all, it's delivery will be watched over by hawks :)

As an aside... there are people I pay for by gift. It's a little sign of showing respect to them.

Orvis CFO is a classic and in mint condition is sought after by collectors - these classic ones are the ones described by Sunray who has given a description of the item including flaws - the one with rivets on the cage made by Hardy.

I can see the argument both ways re: gift and goods for Paypal. I have used both, especially when I do not know the track record of the seller and so far no issues but I have seen people being scammed on this forum before not receiving their goods so chose carefully.
