Sarcasm eh? where is Birmingham in relation to where Alan lives?
Reported in Glasgow Live newsfeed does not mean it actually happened there!
Read it!
That’s a very valid point young man. No Range River owner would be daft enough to leave their vehicle parked up in Glasgow I’m sure. Liverpool too.

Nice looking vehicle. It does amuse me how much envy they attract from people.

Land Rover driver baffled as rude note stuck to windscreen of car - Glasgow Live
Thanks, it's been in the family since new; it was my dad's 'weekend car' (during the week he drove to work and back in a Mini van, and latterly a Ford Fiesta van). I decided to buy it to keep as a future classic when he was offered a pittance for it in PX for a new BMW 3 Series once he retired and decided it was a bit too big for him. A wise decision financially (one of the few I've probably made!); it still only has 46,000 miles on the clock and is now worth more than my dad paid for it when he bought it new, and has been going up in value each year.

Then there's the obvious connection with my late father (and my Mum, who's still going strong but also used to drive it), and some of the memories that go with that vehicle, such as picking Jack Bruce (one of the best bass guitar players of all time) up and driving him from his hotel to the gig venue and back in that car, with his Warwick custom fretless bass guitar safely transported in the boot. Gary Brooker (Procol Harum keyboard and vocals and keen fly fisherman) was also a passenger in it (with other members of his band), along with Geoff Whitehorn (Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, etc.) plus several other musicians of that era (I was doing some favours for a musician friend of mine).

That's what you get with a car that's built to last (providing you look after it). I wonder if one of today's EVs will still be driving around in 30+ years time to evoke similar memories? Coincidentally, the specialist independent LR garage I take my car to for servicing had another Range Rover Classic in today when I went to pick mine up. Apparently that one had been owned by Elton John when it was new. If cars could talk I have a feeling that mine probably had a good chat with it.

The BBC ran a programme last night looking at EV’s which examined all the infrastructure, grid requirements and general state of progress towards the 2030 deadline for new targets.

I don’t know enough about EV’s so for me this was a bit of an education. I wasn’t expecting much but it was shocking to see how unprepared and behind other countries the UK is. Also how the global supply chain is totally inadequate for demand and concentrated in a handful of exactly the countries you wouldn’t want it.

Seems like another example of a government throwing a target out there without a scooby doo of how any of it will happen. The lack of investment for UK battery companies and restricted planning laws looked particularly bad. No joined up thinking at all.

An eye opener for me was that many who buy electric cars buy them for the acceleration performance, nothing to do with saving the planet. A tesla model S plaid does 0-60 in 2.3 seconds. The slowest model S does it in 3.1 seconds. The slowest model T in 5.0 seconds. I'm not sure how long the tyres would last if that was done regularly.

Just electric cars?

A little bit longer than the battery.....

I've seen some stats on what happens to battery life when driving at speed. You kill the range a lot more than you drain your petrol or diesel fuel tank doing the same.

The new synthetic fuel seems to be getting better, could a synthetic fuel generator be a better idea for running the electric motors rather than a the unstable battery technology  🔥🔥🔥🔥

Synthetic fuels is opening a can of worms. There are numerous synthetic fuels but all are based upon carbon derivatives and produce CO2 when burnt. Biofuels come from plant sources and are theoretically carbon neutral, but I've read the amount of plant material needed to produce enough biofuel would mean not enough food could be produced. Synfuel is commercially made from carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The reaction between methane and water at high temperature and pressure produces the hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which can then be converted into synfuel, again not carbon neutral. The e-fuel is made from carbon dioxide and hydrogen, to form methanol, which can either be used in a suitable engine or is converted into petrol/diesel, but this relies on there being a commercially viable, carbon neutral source of hydrogen.

Whether this is going to significantly reduce CO2 emissions overall needs very careful consideration of the whole process.

That would be an e-fuel hybrid. Make it a plug in e-fuel hybrid and it's a win win for range anxiety and liquid fueling ststion infrastructure remains viable.

Only problem is e-fuels are horrifically expensive and need lots of energy. Much safer than hydrogen vehicle fuelling, though hydrogen production is a step in the synthesis of e-fuels.
