My local Evri driver hates being caught delivering a parcel. She likes to sneak up and take a picture of the parcel outside my door and clear off.
Trouble is I hear the confirmatory ping of the scanner after she has done this and pop out and ask her to wait while I inspect the parcel before accepting it which obviously causes her a slight delay, and if I were to reject it as damaged there is lots of form-filling.
But if you read the small print most international couriers will only accept responsibility for damage in transit if you reject at point of delivery.
As an update on my post over the page, I rejected a delivery yesterday. DHL had tried to delivery it, despite me cancelling it with the sender the previous day due to DHL's repeated lies, time-wasting and consistent unreliability. The irony is that they actually turned up with it this time, which was the fourth time they'd notified me of it being 'out for delivery'. I explained to the driver that I'd cancelled the order due to DHL letting me down on the delivery three times in a row, and twice telling lies saying they'd attempted delivery when they clearly hadn't. He looked a bit sheepish (perhaps it was him who'd sent the two blank delivery photos!) and said it was within my rights to refuse delivery, to which I replied, I know!
In short, the sender has lost a two and a half grand sale due to choosing an unreliable delivery company. Hopefully they'll learn by their mistake and go with someone reliable like DPD to deliver a high value item next time.
